Final Concept
The series of
photographs uses three ordinary, coloured (blue, green, purple) glass jars that
in universal daylight have an absence of their intrinsic materialistic
qualities. Through the use of directional light these qualities are revealed
creating abstract forms and transparent compositions. The layering of the
objects in some images creates a sense of space. Turning to Abstract artists
for inspiration, the images incorporate attributes evident in a variety of
artists’ work. For instance, Victor Schrager’s placement of colour and layering
of objects, Mark Rothko’s implementation of thirds and painterly textures,
Gretchen Albrecht’s brush-stroke gestures and fluid forms, and Alan Jaras’ use
of black as a contrast to heighten colour. As a series, the images move from a
more simplistic palette of colour and form through to an abstract mixture of
the two.
Shoot Five
For these images I wanted to try a similar technique to Alan Jaras by taking the lens off the camera. They turned out better than I expected but there are obviously some technical steps missing. it was a fun experiment though.
